Shayne McIntyre

tv producer, soul surfer

It is a fine tradition: the chartered vagabond. Intrepid travelers who through sheer commitment and passion to the empty road convince powers-that-be to sponsor their wanderlust. And then return with tales of adventure and discovery that inspire both admiration and envy. Add Shayne McIntyre to that list. With his self-conceived, self-shot and self-produced cable series Surfari McIntyre, along with wife Shannon and son Banyan, has circled the globe in search of waves and wonder. Example is his latest trip to Nihiwatu in Indonesia, highlighting both the dream waves and the humanitarian work of the Sumba Foundation, providing schools, hospitals and economic opportunities for the islanders. Yet it’s not so much what he does that makes Shayne such an inspirational character, but that he does it. Effectively footloose, his path really leads down corridors of the imagination. To hear Shayne’s stories is to consider the choices he has made and wonder, “Why not me?” Why not live life wide open, unafraid of what lays unseen over the far horizon? Why not take that chance? Shayne McIntyre is taking it, for all of us.
